Samuel 1:1-28
Hannah was someone who knew what it was to experience
emotional turmoil. She was barren. And to be barren in
her day made her subject to ridicule and shame. I
imagine she probably felt useless, having no purpose or
value. Because of her unfruitfulness the scripture
says her adversary provoked her causing her to fret.
How? By constantly reminding her of her condition. The
word fret means to cause emotional strain, to eat or
gnaw into, corrode or fray. In other words, the enemy
had caused such emotional stress in her life that it
had begun to gnaw or corrode away her faith. In so
much, that it began to affect her physically---she
could not eat. She was so emotionally distraught that
her countenance had become one of sorrow. She was
woman who was barren and empty!
You may feel like Hannah-empty! You have
listened to the assaults of the enemy, telling you, you
will not be able to carry or fulfill the word or
ministry that God has spoken into your spirit. And
because you have listened to the voice of your enemy,
you feel barren and useless, having no purpose or
value. You have become like Hannah and are
unfruitful. Wanting to carry the vision, the word, the
purpose of God; but, instead you are filled with
emptiness. You have allowed your circumstances to gnaw
away your faith. Your countenance has become one of
sorrow, depression, worry, tension, and fear. Instead
of joy you live day by day under mental exhaustion and
strain. But God is saying to you today, “Don’t look
at your condition but your position!”. And that’s
exactly what Hannah did.
Hannah went to the temple with her husband as
according to custom. The temple represents the
presence of God. In other words, Hannah went to God’s
presence. It’s in God’s presence that you learn to get
your eyes off your condition and see your position. It
was there that she poured her heart out to God. It was
in His presence she told God to look upon her
affliction, to see her emptiness, to see her
unfruitfulness, to she how barren she was, to see the
accusations of the enemy. And when she had deposited
her situation into God’s hands, the priest came and
thought Hannah was drunk. Let me insert here, “Isn’t
that like the religious world! Not understanding when
you really get in God’s presence.” When Hannah
explained to the priest she was praying he told her,
her request was granted. Then the scripture said
Hannah ate and her countenance was sad no more. And
according to her appointed time she brought forth a son
named Samuel, meaning God heard.
It is in our time of feeling unfruitful and barren that
we must go to the presence of the Lord. It’s in His
presence that things happen. We too, must be like
Hannah and cry God look at my affliction, see the
emptiness, see how barren and unfruitful I am, see the
accusations of the enemy. You may be entertaining
thoughts or feelings of having no purpose or that
your situation will never change, but it’s in God’s
presence that God causes you to see beyond your
condition and impregnates you with His divine agenda.
The word that God has spoken to you must be conceived
in the divine realm before it can be manifested in the
natural realm. This was true with Hannah. Her
conception of Samuel took place in the spirit realm
before it ever took place in the natural. What am I
saying? Hannah acted in the natural in accordance with
what she knew had been conceived in the Spirit. How? By
her actions. Hannah’s whole countenance changed before
Samuel was ever conceived in the natural. She believed
what God had spoken in her spirit before it was ever
manifested. In other words, she no longer walked
around in insecurity and no purpose. She knew God had
placed His divine agenda within her and that it would
come forth in God’s appointed time. See, when faith is
combined with the Word it produces life. If you want
things to change you’ve got to let faith carry the
Word-not fear!
Today, don’t abort the word God has placed within you.
At your appointed time God’s going to cause the word He
has planted in your spirit to come forth. No matter
what your circumstances dictate, you must be like
Hannah and walk in assurance that God is able to
manage, use and control your situation. Your
countenance and actions must be one of faith and not
fear. Your speech and actions must depict you know
God’s going to do what He said He would do regardless
of your adversity. You may not see it right now but at
your appointed time God’s going to begin to bring
forth your Samuel. Your enemy is going to know you have
been heard of God! At your appointed time doors are
going to open, healing is going to come forth, joy is
going to spring forth , restoration to your home will
arise, and divine purpose will stand up in your life.
Today, make it a point to go to the presence of God.
Get in his presence driving in your car, at work , and
at home. For it’s there that you will see beyond your
condition and see your divine position. Even if things
don’t change for you immediately, don’t abort the
promise! But carry it until your time of deliverance -
for I hear a Samuel crying!!!!!
Lord, help us this year to walk according to our divine
position instead of our condition. Let your word come
forth in our life. Amen!
